NaNoWriMo Needs Your Vote!

Cast Your Vote
NaNoWriMo's non-profit organization, Office of Letters and Lights, is in the running for a piece of a $5 million pie in a contest sponsored by Chase Community Giving on facebook.  Top prize for the charity receiving the most votes is $250,000 or enough to pay for the servers for five years.

Earlier today they were just a few hundred votes short to qualify for a 50K slice which would cover the salary for one of the year around staff.

MISSION
The Office of Letters and Light organizes events where children and adults find the inspiration, encouragement, and structure they need to achieve their creative potential. Our programs are web-enabled challenges with vibrant real-world components, designed to foster self-expression while building community on local and global levels.

As a eight year participant in NaNoWriMo and three years in Script Frenzy and two Camp NaNoWriMos this summer, I can testify to the efficacy of their mission as far as its impact on me personally.  And via my participation in the onnline communities I've seen glimmers and glimpses of the impacts on many hundreds of other individuals.

Via their Young Writer's program they coordinate their various online challenges with the schools at every level from elementary to university

Not mentioned in that mission statement is their dedication to literacy itself and the benefits their programs provide to that precious national resource for any democracy: a literate population

Please go vote and as Executive Director Graham Faulkner asks in the email plea:

After you vote, please spread the word like a wild, over-caffeinated Plot Bunny on Twitter and Facebook. But mainly, please vote, because we want to build a stronger NaNoWriMo for everyone.
