2014: Forget Me Not

forget-me-not by Alice Popkorn  (cc)
So long 2014.

I will not forget you
but not for trying.
Your whirlygig antics have
ground my nerves raw.

Thanks for the memories...
urm...not so much...
well, one, anyway.
OK...two.

I guess you were an affiliate
of the School of Hard Knocks
and devotee of the theory:
'you must be cruel to be kind'

for you were generous with your cruelty
and stinting of your kindness.
Maybe someday I will thank you for the lessons
having found them crucial to my future joy.

but not today...

Today I say "Get thee hence
before I slam that door on your behind...
and take your 'kindness' with you
to where the sun don't shine."

Longview, Washington's Go 4th 2014

I didn't get to go to Longview's Go 4th celebration again this year so I experienced it vicariously.  Watched vids from previous years on the 4th and then those from 2014 later. I'm prepping this days later as I'm still running behind on getting my posts up.

The north end of Lake Sacajawea where the festivities are held each year is only blocks from Mom's house.  The 'party' is held nearly a mile from here in a several block swath on both sides of the narrow lake near the middle of it's length, centered on Martin's Dock and Lyon's Island.

Vendors set up days in advance and there's a timber festival with logging competitions:

and a cardboard boat regatta:

Be My Valentine -- Together We Are Amazing

Together We Are Amazing
They are singing the chorus
from the love song lyrics
I wrote last April

For my Valentine:

My heart beats for you
Your heart sings to me
Our song a new
Electric harmony.

by Joy Renee

She:   You are the sun on cloudy days
He:    You are the daze in rowdy fun
Duo:   Together our love is daz-za-ling
          Together we are amaz-za-zing

Chorus:
She:   You put the za-zing in my amaze
He:     You put the amaze in my za-zing
Duo:   Together we are amaz-za-zing

She:   You take the sting from every harm
He:    You take the harm from every sting
Duo:   Together we are harmonizing
          Together we are amaz-za-zing

Chorus:
She:   You put the za-zing in my amaze
He:    You put the amaze in my za-zing
Duo:   Together we are amaz-za-zing

She:   You give me the ring to every phrase
He:    You give me the phrase I wanna sing
Duo:   Together we are song writing
          Together we are amaz-za-zing

Chorus:
She:   You put the za-zing in my amaze
He:    You put the amaze in my za-zing
Duo:   Together we are amaz-za-zing

She:   You put the dream in my for real
He:    You put the real in my droll schemes
Duo:   Together we are realizing
          Together we are amaz-za-zing

Chorus:
She:   You put the za-zing in my amaze
He:    You put the amaze in my za-zing
Duo:   Together we are amaz-za-zing

She:   You put the stars in my night skies
He:    You put the light in my bright stars
Duo:   Together we are star gazing
          Together we are amaz-za-zing

Chorus:
She:   You put the za-zing in my amaze
He:    You put the amaze in my za-zing
Duo:   Together we are amaz-za-zing

Crochet Gift WIP

These are a some of the gifts I was working on for Christmas and didn't get ready in time.  I will be working hard throughout January to finish these and others plus a few birthday gifts.  Many need only small finishing touches--tail tucking, blocking and decorating--but several require substantial work yet.

3 More Crocheted Christmas Gifts

Purple Mesh Bookmark with Vintage Button
These three were all gifts for my sister that I finished late.  I'm working on more.  Will (I hope) be doling out several more over the next couple of months.  I have quite a few in progress intended for her.  Many finished all but tucking tails and blocking and adding decorative touches.  Most small like the bookmark several medium sized like the 'sponge' and wallet below and a couple large and/or complex.

She isn't the only one for whom I have collections of projects in the works.  I hope to finish several for Mom's birthday next Friday.

There are several more buttons like that in Mom's vintage collection (that I've confiscated) diamond rhinestones in a pearl white setting.  They would make great earrings if I could figure out how to mount the posts on the back.

Purple Mesh 'Sponge'

This one wasn't a WIP.  I began and finished it in about 4 hours.  I used the Sugar n Cream cotton yarn, intending to make a dishrag but got about half done when I realized it was already hard to wad up in my hand.  I noticed that folded in half it was about the size of a sponge so I topped it off with the green edge and then crocheted the three edges together.  I took out and put back in sections of the purple edging several times trying to get it to lay flat and stay square.  As you can see, I gave up.

Variegated Purple Wallet with Button Flap
This one has been kicking around in my all-but-finished WIP bag for years.  It was the first project I started that wasn't a bookmark tho I did start and finish a prayer shall before I finished crocheting the rectangle for this.

So who can guess my sister's favorite color?

Have a LOLly Good Christmas

Kitteh and Mr. Redsuit Chapter 3

Chapter 1
Chapter 2

I've had a pretty good Christmas after all.  Better than I expected after learning two weeks ago that I definitely would not get to go down to Southern Oregon to spend Christmas with Ed and his family.

Kissmass tis zosting
I've got pictures but I'm too tired to prep them so I'll share tomorrow and leave you with some LOLcat cheer.

OK.  I can manage two.  One featuring some of the aftermath of today and the past week's prep.  And one symbolizing a vision of next year's Christmas.

Two years ago today we had just taken possession of our own rental home for the first time in over 10 years and we dreamed of getting to decorate and celebrate our first Christmas in our own place since 2000.  But a significant drop in hours for Ed made extras like decorations and special recipe ingredients impossible.  So we pinned our hopes on this year...

But the Lifequake intervened and two weeks from now on January 6th makes my 3 week visit to Mom's officially one year.

Today I'm dreaming of celebrating Christmas with Ed in our own home next year.  One of the things I got from my sister today symbolized that vision:

My Blue Christmass
This is what I meant by 'not mood wise' abvoe

Happy Thanksgiving! What Are You Thankful For?

Moar 'notus mi' kittehs
One of the repercussions of the lifequake that's been shaking me to my foundations since last January is missing out on the Holiday family gatherings with Ed's family.  My family doesn't celebrate holidays and I really began to enjoy and look forward to the family holiday doings with Ed's extended family.  I've missed nearly a year's worth of them now and Christmas isn't looking like a for sure thing at this point.

So I'm feeling a bit blue today and struggling to find reason to be thankful.  But of course there is.  There always is if you look for them.  Like every day, I'm thankful for the roof over my head, the good food (even if itsn't a holiday feast), family fellowship and love and so much more we all usually take for granted.

Today tho, the thing I'm most thankful for is the Blaze 4G smartphone Ed gave me for my birthday this month and for the way he has used our phone connection to involve me in the gathering at his folk's today with pictures and text messaging.

Day of Thanks

ai dynt sa halp meh gawgul k? I sayd hawpee Gawblur Day

Today my sister took me to the laundromat and helped run nearly two dozen loads through the machines.  I have seldom been as grateful for anything as I was for this today.

It took us seven hours.  Around three loads worth had to be rewashed a second or third time for stubborn stains or odors before graduating to the dryer.

I was wishing I'd taken my netbook or at least a pencil to go with the tablet I had in my bag so I could have gotten at least some of my NaNo words but I didn't so I didn't.  That is two days in a row now.  I could easily set a scene in my NaNo novel at a laundromat.  So I did try to observe and make a lot of mental notes and hoped to get some down tonight but I'm so exhausted the words on the page look like bug tracks even at normal font sizes.

I think I need to give in to the urge to splurge on zzzzzzzzzzz

Happy July 4th

At this moment I pity Lady Liberty/  Poor girl hasn't a single hand free to cover her ears!!!!

It's after 9pm here in the trailer park and the sparks are flying and the whizzers are whizzing and pops are popping and the kids are squealing and the adults are whooting and the M80s are booming.

Yeah those last are supposed to be illegal but when has that ever stopped them.  I can't remember a single 4th of July here or elsewhere when at least one of those didn't go off near enough for me to smell it for an hour after.

Do I sound peevish?  Not very Patriotic of me eh?

Well I've come a long way from the tantruming toddler who stood in her crib at 19 months screaming BOOM BOOM MAMA BOOM BOOM until nearly dawn.

And there went the M80.

Four Five Six Seven...

I was just getting ready to type that at least they were a block or more away and then two of them shook the windows.

Poor Merlin!!

Someone just set off a high-pitched whistler right out in the street.  I hope he isn't in my office with me as it sits on the edge of the street.  He was in here with me earlier but I don't see him now.  I suppose I should go check on him.  Maybe we can comfort each other.

Ahhhhh.  I didn't intend for this to be anything more than a pic and a caption.  Like a greeting card.  Sorry.  I guess I've let that toddler out a bit.  But a least she has a bigger vocabulary and all you can hear is the tapping on the keys.

Sunday Serenity #285 Mother's Day Blessings

This was the state of Mom's scarf/shawl when I had to give it to her today and then take it away. It might be a bit over half done. I have 21 of the long rows. I'm aiming for 33.

I've been awake since before noon on Saturday because I kept crocheting so long this morning I lost my chance to get more than a nap before it would be time to fix lunch for Mom so I elected to keep on crocheting until time to fix lunch.

But then my brother surprised us by calling from Portland to say he was bringing his kids [only the youngest is technically still a kid] and Jamie up to take us all out for dinner.  And we all decided to save our appetites for that and just nibbled a bit on our own instead of me making lunch.

So I was off the hook for making lunch and dinner which was a huge blessing.  Considering how yesterday when well rested I manged to knock the cutting board off the sink rim onto my bare toes.

I showed Mom the scarf/shawl at the restaurant after she had looked at the Family Mother's Day card.  She asked me if I was making a 'fascinator'.  A word I'd never heard but she said it was like a scarf but bigger and could cover your hair and wrap around your neck.  She said they were popular when she was in high-school

So maybe that is what I'm making.  A fascinator.  [not sure of tha spelling

Well I have been nodding off over this from the moment I started prepping the pictures.  I better surrender to it.
