Transformational Author Experience 2014

Trnasformational Author Experience
2014
Christine Kloser plus 21 transformational leaders, publishing industry experts and NY Times bestselling authors share their wisdom, insider tips and practical how-to on writing, publishing and promoting your transformational story or book of advice on how to create transformation in one's self, family, community or world.

I've been listening to this webinar series all week. Two speakers per day M-Th and 3 on Friday. After the first day I was wishing I'd done a blog post promoting it ahead of time. I wondered if it was too late. Were they still accepting registrations?

I delayed until today to go check on that. It seems the invite page is still active.   I decided to do this post when I got the email today saying that, because of tech problems with the daily replays, they are going to make the whole week's worth available all weekend--until Monday at 4:30PM Eeastern or 1:30PM Pacific when they put up Monday's two immediately after the second is over, which would make it possible for late comers to catch up.

I've been listening to the replays all week because I spaced it Monday and forgot to tune in live. I listened to Monday's second with Panache Desai twice and I think I just may listen again this weekend after I catch up with Friday's three and Thursday's second which I missed when I was called away from the computer before noon today and didn't get back until after 2.

The event continues through Friday of next week and with a basic pass, like mine, it is free to listen live or to the replays for 24 hours. If you want to download the audios and PDF transcript to keep you would need to upgrade to Gold level.  At Platinum and Diamond levels there are a range of other extras, including, templates, live coaching, home study courses, special reports, live Q+A and training.

Also included in Gold and Platinum is an entry into the 4th Annual Transformational Author Writing Contest where the coveted prize is a Hay House book contract. Other prizes include other publishing packages, coaching, home study courses, live event tickets, a full edit package, promotional assistance, workshops, an agent, a conference and more.

What are Transformational Books? Think Hay House. Think Eckhart Tolle, Neale Donald Walsch, Louise Hay, Iyanla Vanzant or personal journeys out of grief, despair, bitterness, illness, poverty, ignorance or fear and topics like spiritual path, health and fitness, enlightenment, achieving wealth or success, Law of Attraction, Inspirational, or transforming fear, anger and depression into love, peace and joy.

When I first found the invite in my email, I was going to pass thinking it wasn't something I could use since my passion is fiction and poetry. [In my research for this post I discovered that spiritual fiction and poetry is included in the concept and accepted in the contest.] But when I realized: I have been recording the play-by-play of my lifequake and its aftershocks here since Valentine's week of 2013 and if I ever do pull my life out of the rubble I could quite possibly have a transformational story in a very rough draft. With that thought, I went ahead and registered.

I'm glad I did now because I'm finding the advice transferable to my self-pub aspirations for my stories as well. I mean topics like the following are pertinent to any writer:
  • Writing Through Fear
  • Self-Publishing vs. Traditional Publishing
  • How to Become A Hay House Author
  • Creating an Enlightened Best-Seller
  • The Millionaire Master Plan for Authors
  • Claiming Your Authentic Voice
  • Building Your Authors Platform
  • Discovering Your Soul Signature
  • How to Become a Powerful Speaker
  • Social Media for Authors
Here you can listen to messages from five attendees of previous TAE events who took their book from idea to big success.

The following was provided as a suggested blog post for bloggers wanting to promote the event.  My original plan was to copy paste this and provide a short intro paragraph.  Ha.  When have I ever? I was about to delete it since I covered so much of the territory above but there is enough useful info in their copy to warrant leaving it in:

How to Grow Your Business as a Published Author… and Impact More Lives With Your Message
Have you dreamed of writing a book or becoming a successful published author? Do you have a valuable message that – if put in print – will help grow your business and transform more lives? If you answered yes, but don’t have your book written yet… keep reading!
There has never been a better time to write your book and become an author. The opportunities available for authors in the 21st Century are endless. Yet, the majority of entrepreneurs who say they want to write a book don’t actually do it. Why? Based on more than 900 responses to a recent survey by Transformational Book Coach, Christine Kloser, aspiring authors revealed what holds them back.
Most authors don’t know where to start or what to do first. They are overwhelmed with too much information and not enough action. Sometimes things like fear and doubt creep in. Other times, its confusion, lack of clarity or confidence that can stop an author in their tracks. Another big challenge for authors is feeling like their book has already been written… by somebody else.
Not to mention the maze of information out there about writing and publishing a book. Is it best to self-publish or try to get an agent and sell your manuscript? How important is it to build your platform? What are the first things to do to start writing your book? How can you leverage your book to grow your business? What do you do about “writer’s block?” How much will it cost to publish?
The good news is, it IS absolutely possible to write your book in a way that is easy, joyful and fun – without wasting your precious time, money or energy going in circles. It’s also possible your book will bring about profound personal, professional, and even planetary transformation.
Here are three steps to get started:
  1. Strategize Your Book - Don’t just start writing, rather know who you’re writing for, why you want to serve them and how you want to serve them. Having this clarity up front will help the book flow more easily.
  2. Write Your Book For One Person - Your book is an intimate conversation with one person at a time – as they cuddle up with your words. So, don’t set out to write your book for the masses – write if for one person and you’ll reach many.
  3. Keep Going - The only reason why aspiring authors don’t end up published authors is because they let themselves get stopped. The most important thing you can do it keep going… even if it means you write for 1 minute today. That’s better than nothing!
===================

Big Kindle Boogie - One Day Left

http://bigkindleboogie.blogspot.com/
http://www.facebook.com/BigKindleBoogie

There are 10 Kindle Fires up for grabs.  And to top it off the winner of the first drawing also gets $500 donated to their local public library.  As bad as I want a Kindle Fire (any Kindle actually) I would be more thrilled to see that money go to our Jackson County Library System which continues to struggle like a transplant patient on life-support ever since the six month closure in 2007.  So I love that these guys are adding that grace note to their boogie.

I have downloaded all of my copies of the 75 books.  Those I didn't already have from the Kindle Fire Giveaway Scott Nicholson participated in with two other inde authors a couple of weeks ago.  The books among them that I'm the most excited about aren't the novels and short story collections but rather the non-fic books on writing, self-publishing, being an indie author and all that entails including promotion.  So even if you think the genre of story these guys write is not your cup of tea but you are an aspiring writer yourself you might find those books helpful.

I am participating in these events and the virtual author blog tours of the previous two days posts as part of my investigation into the inde option for publishing my own stories.  I believe it takes more than reading books about it.  Watching someone who made it work in action is worth a thousand how-to manuals.  And as I've discussed here before, self promotion is a very alien concept to me because of the way I was raised to believe that it was the equivalent to bragging which in turn was evidence of prIde which was a sIn.  Note the big fat capital 'I' in the middle of those dirty words.  Evidence, see, that when you put your big, fat, selfish self into the middle of something you are standing on a slippery slope on the edge of the abyss and nothing good can come of it.

I learned that before grade school and fifty years later still can't shake it.  Even after eight years of blogging.

Funny thing is tho, whatever in me generates that anxiety and self-disgust surrounding efforts at calling attention to myself does not translate to feeling disgust with others I'm observing in action doing the very thing I can't seem to allow myself to do.  I even have vicarious joy in watching them succeed as I cheer them on.  That seems to indicate to me that this is not a core value of mine but rather something more like a Pavlov response.

So I wonder if I were to create a pen name and instill an alter ego in it and publish and promote under it would my 'I' feel free to cheer on it's alter 'I' and allow it to succeed?

OMG my brain hurts.

Actually if I had my druthers I'd rather give my alter 'I' all the baggage of the  'self=sin' paradigm and write under my own name.  Which BTW means 'joy reborn'.

OK so this post went places I never intended.  Only the pic and the first paragraph was planned when I opened the draft and I almost clicked on publish but then thought to say something about the free books.  This is what happens when I start typing after being awake over twenty hours--just hit 36.  Which is probably why I do it so often.  24 to 44 hour wake periods are to me what alcohol is to the drunk--a form of self medication that lowers anxiety and inhibition.

I wish I could bottle whatever it is that floods my brain sometime after twenty hours awake and take a swig upon waking.

Besides the four Kindle fires and a fist full of gift cards these four sponsoring authors are pricing the Kindle editions of many of their novels at 0.00 between today and Friday.

Or you could check the author's pages at Amazon.com every day through Friday:

The Castaways

By Elin Hilderbrand
TRADE PAPERBACK
400p
(c) 2009
Back Bay Books

Greg and Tess MacAvoy are one of four prominent Nantucket couples who count each other as best friends. As pillars of their close-knit community, the MacAvoys, Kapenashes, Drakes, and Wheelers are important to their friends and neighbors, and especially to each other. But just before the beginning of another idyllic summer, Greg and Tess are killed when their boat capsizes during an anniversary sail. As the warm weather approaches and the island mourns their loss, nothing can prepare the MacAvoy's closest friends for what will be revealed.

Once again, Hilderbrand masterfully weaves an intense tale of love and loyalty set against the backdrop of endless summer island life.

Book Giveaway: The Gate House by Nelson DeMille

( oops. fixed the post title. so embarrassed. )

I'm authorized to give away 5 copies. Rules for entry in the drawing are below. Please read them carefully.

The Gate House
by Nelson DeMille
Grand Central Publishing
800p

#1 New York Times bestselling author Nelson DeMille delivers the long-awaited follow-up to his classic novel The Gold Coast.

When John Sutter's aristocratic wife killed her mafia don lover, John left America and set out in his sailboat on a three-year journey around the world, eventually settling in London. Now, ten years later, he has come home to the Gold Coast, that stretch of land on the North Shore of Long Island that once held the greatest concentration of wealth and power in America, to attend the imminent funeral of an old family servant. Taking up temporary residence in the gatehouse of Stanhope Hall, John finds himself living only a quarter of a mile from Susan who has also returned to Long Island. But Susan isn't the only person from John's past who has reemerged: Though Frank Bellarosa, infamous Mafia don and Susan's ex-lover, is long dead, his son, Anthony, is alive and well, and intent on two missions: Drawing John back into the violent world of the Bellarosa family, and exacting revenge on his father's murderer--Susan Sutter. At the same time, John and Susan's mutual attraction resurfaces and old passions begin to reignite, and John finds himself pulled deeper into a familiar web of seduction and betrayal. In THE GATE HOUSE, acclaimed author Nelson Demille brings us back to that fabled spot on the North Shore -- a place where past, present, and future collides with often unexpected results.

Sorry it took me so long to get this posted. It was so warm this afternoon I just couldn't bear to have my hands hovering over the heat coming off my laptop keyboard. Ugh. Book Giveaway: My Name Is Will

I'm authorized to give away 1 copy. Rules for entry in the drawing are below. Please read them carefully.

My Name Is Will: A Novel of Sex, Drugs, and Shakespeare
by Jess WinField
(c) 2008
Publisher: Twelve
304 pages

"Utterly delicious, original, witty, hilarious and brilliant. Shakespeare In Love on magic mushrooms. The Bard has never been this much fun."

-
Christopher Buckley, author of Boomsday and Thank You For Smoking

A Tale of two Shakespeares...

Struggling UC Santa Cruz grad student Willie Shakespeare Greenberg is trying to write his thesis about the Bard. Kind of...

Cut off by his father for laziness, and desperate for dough, Willie agrees to deliver a single giant, psychedelic mushroom to a mysterious collector, making himself an unwitting target in Ronald Reagan's War on Drugs.

Meanwhile, would-be playwright (and oppressed Catholic) William Shakespeare is eighteen years old and stuck teaching Latin in the boondocks of Stratford-upon-Avon. The future Bard's life is turned upside down when a stranger entrusts him with a sacred relic from Rome... This, at a time when adherents of the "Old Faith" are being hanged, drawn, and quartered as traitors.

Seemingly separated in time and place, the lives of Willie and William begin to intersect in curious ways, from harrowing encounters with the law (and a few ex-girlfriends) to dubious experiments with mind-altering substances. Their misadventures could be dismissed as youthful folly. But wise or foolish, the bold choices they make will shape not only the 'Shakespeare' each is destined to come... but the very course of history itself.

Book Giveaway: Off Season

I'm authorized to give away 1 copy. Rules for entry in the drawing are below. Please read them carefully.

Off Season
by Anne Rivers Siddons

Acclaimed novelist Anne Rivers Siddons's new novel is a stunning tale of love and loss.

For as long as she can remember, they were Cam and Lilly--happily married, totally in love with each other, parents of a beautiful family, and partners in life. Then, after decades of marriage, it ended as every great love story does...in loss. After Cam's death, Lilly takes a lone road trip to her and Cam's favorite spot on the remote coast of Maine, the place where they fell in love over and over again, where their ghosts still dance. There, she looks hard to her past--to a first love that ended in tragedy; to falling in love with Cam; to a marriage filled with exuberance, sheer life, and safety-- to try to figure out her future.

It is a journey begun with tender memories and culminating in a revelation that will make Lilly re-evaluate everything she thought was true about her husband and her marriage.

Jump for Joy

The Crimes of Paris goes to Cheryl

Angry Conversations with God goes to R.L.Scovens

The Power to Change Today goes to MJ

The Turnaround goes to Jake, Angela C & MJ Pam. (MJ won elsewhere so passed.)

This is the winner's circle for this week's book giveaway drawings. I will be updating this post with the winners of all three drawings as soon as I have completed all three.

I am posting this now because I can see I'm not going to finish compiling the lists before our dinner hour here and it may be very late this evening before I can return to the task and into the wee hours before I have the names of the winners. I did not want to keep everybody who might be anxiously watching for the notice wondering what's up. I'm so sorry for the delay.

I wish to thank every one who participated and especially those who helped spread the word on their blogs, forums and twitter.

I also wish to apologize to all those who entered the drawing for The Crime of Paris and had to scroll and scroll and scroll past that silly 17.5K word spam comment. Yes, I copy/pasted it into an application to count the words! I thought I had deleted that on the day it was posted but apparently had missed a step in the process.

Top of My Wish List

Oh, do I need this! This would make life so much easier for me as a writer and researcher with documents and data bases; as a blogger with multiple web sites in production with all their associated graphics.; as a family member who has taken on the task of digitizing five generations of family photos; as a collector of podcasts, ebooks, audio books and music. I just recently spent significant chunks of two weekend days backing up to thumb drives. It is past time to do it again but the audio and image thumbs are full and I'm balking at facing the complex choices involved. I visited Clickfree's site and watched the two videos and what I like most about these drives beyond the ease of backing up, is that you can access and use the files from the drive. This is definitely going near the top of my wish list!!

VanillaJoy has a giveaway going on for this. Go check it out. It's over at midnight tomorrow!
