Our Broken Valentine
by Joy Renee
When was the last time our eyes lit up when the other came into view?
When was the last time we listened to each other with delight?
When was the last time we held each other in esteem?
When was the last time we talked at length without a fight?
When was the last time we thought the other was supreme?
When was the last time we put a premium on kind?
When was the last time we laughed in unison?
When was the last time we sat in harmonious silence?
When was the last time we enjoyed a bit of fun?
When was the last time we felt the other's reverence?
When was the last time we saw our future looking bright?
When was the last time we felt safe to speak our minds?
When was the last time we saw the other's face sans clenched jaws or pouts?
When was the last time our hands entwined?
When was the last time we had more hope than doubts?
When was the last time we gave instead of took?
When was the last time we melted in the other's gaze?
When was the last time we didn't feel forsook?
When was the last time our hearts did triple time at just the sight of the other's face?
At just the slightest accidental touch?
At just the memory of their smile?
Is it too late?
Have we sealed our fate?
Must we accept the never ever?
Or can hope and love preside over the ushering in of all of the next times?
2 tell me a story:
I love you! I am glad you are expressing your emotions and not holding them in. I know whatever happens you will rise above and succeed.
I backed up a little bit through your blog to see what had happened - definitely sorry to hear about the hard time you're having right now (and have been having for awhile, obviously.)
I did enjoy your poem. As always, writing from a deeply personal place usually brings out powerful writing.
Keep writing.
