Thursday Thirteen #102

Scroll down for the book giveaway.

  1. It's a community for writers
  2. Registration is free
  3. They hold cash prize contests for first person non-fiction (the personal essay just up most bloggers alley)
  4. There is step-by-step instruction page for getting started
  5. In order to submit your own Field Report to compete for a prize you must first read and anonymously rate 5 randomly selected Field Reports
  6. You may make multiple submissions but each 'costs' 5 reviews
  7. Making the reviewing both anonymous and random helps insure each submission gets reviewed and the rating more likely to be an honest appraisal.
  8. Thus advancing in rank isn't a popularity contest or influenced by self-promotion
  9. There are 21 categories for which $1000 prizes are awarded
  10. Winning in a category qualifies the entry for the three elimination rounds that determine the Grand Prize winner of $250,000
  11. There is a TeenReport section of the site for which the Grand Prize is a $25,000 scholarship
  12. By submitting to a contest, though you do retain copyright, you will be granting Field Report certain long term rights for its use and limiting how and where you can use the content elsewhere. So read the submission agreement carefully.
  13. I am still contemplating whether to join and submit as I can see myself spending a lot of time I would have to steal from other pressing projects. But on the other hand, WOW:

I went and checked it out. Wow. Sounds like it could be a great thing for aspiring writers. My daughter will probably be interested in going for that scholarship.

Thanks for this informative T-13!

Mine's up, too.

That sounds interesting. I will have to think about it, as I also don't have a lot of time to devote to that without losing something else.
