Book Giveaway: The Shack by Wm. Paul Young

My Mom and sister are sponsoring this one. They handed me a copy of this book soon after I got here in January. I understand they have been giving a copy or two away every month since they read it about a year ago. I asked back in February if they'd be interested in sponsoring a giveaway here on Joystory and they gave me the go ahead but I kept procrastinating.

If I thought the earlier weeks were too busy to put this post together and hold a drawing...well now its all that plus as I deal with packing and other trip prep and last visits etc.

The rules for entry are somewhat different than the ones I've been using for the Hachette giveaways so read them carefully.

The story about the publishing of The Shack is almost as fascinating (for an aspiring author anyway) as the story in the book. Read more about it on www.theshackbook.com (click the pic)

I can't say too much without giving spoilers. The set up: A father takes three of his children on a camping trip. The older two are paddling in a canoe on the lake as he watches from their camp site with the youngest girl. When the canoe tips over, trapping his son and daughter under it, he rushes to rescue them leaving their six year old sister coloring at the picnic table. After the hulabaloo of righting the canoe the little girl has vanished.

I really should'nt say more. But you can read the first chapter here.

I can say this much: I was profoundly moved by this story.

Rules:

  • Leave a comment in this post expressing your interest in entering the drawing.
  • Provide an @ by which I can contact you in case of a win. Either in your comment or in an email to me at joystory AT gmail DOT com If you email your @ be sure to connect it to your entry. If I do not receive an @ your entry will be disqualified.
  • If, in the case of a win, you would like me to link to your blog in the winners announcement post, provide your URL in your comment or via email. This is not a requirement for entering nor do you have to have a blog yourself in order to enter.
  • If you blog or twitter about this giveaway, send me a link to the post and your name will be entered a second time.
  • Deadline for entering is MIDNIGHT PST Saturday, Jun20, 2009. I will select the winners with a random sequence generator using www.random.org.
  • Here is one difference from my usual MO: I will announce the winners in a post as well as notify by email by 3AM Saturday. Winners must respond with their mailing info by 8Am PST Sunday, June 21st or forfeit. In which case I notify the next entry in the sequence generated by random.org. Alternatively, you could send me your snail mail by email (joystory AT gmail DOT com) at the time of your entry. I promise I won't use it for any other purpose.
  • Here is the main difference from Hachette giveaways: We are opening this up internationally and PO Boxes are OK since we're using the US Postal Service.

I'm sorry for the shortened time between posting and deadline and especially for the cut-in-half time between notification and forfeit but I'm hoping to have the package prepped and addressed before I leave town Sunday morning and I will be checking my email for the last time before packing my laptop for travel at 8 Sunday morning.

Maybe the addition of one of my crocheted bookmarks will help compensate for these inconvienences?
